How Shapewear Offers Nurses Compression Support

by Nima Rafizadeh on Mar 23 2018
For nurses, compression support delivers two main benefits. One they learn about in nursing school, the other they learn about after trying to find ways to relieve the physical stresses of 12-hour shifts. In the classroom, nurses study the benefits of compression hose and socks for patients with conditions like peripheral neuropathy and for post-operative patients. Compression wear promotes circulation and prevents dangerous blood clots. While they learn that first benefit before they even become a nurse, it can take much longer for nurses to realize the benefit they themselves can get from compression wear and products like it, including shapewear. The Mental & Physical Stresses of Nursing If you’ve ever had a ‘rough day at the office’, try doing a 12-hour shift as a nurse. In addition to the human issues and emotional strains and stresses, the bulk of a nursing shift is spent on your feet, standing, walking, lifting, bending and sometimes running to meet an emergency. It results in nurses often spending their shifts battling discomfort and pain in their leg and abdominal muscles and joints. How Shapewear can Help With an inherent understanding of how compression wear can relieve many of their patients’ symptoms, nurses can also appreciate the benefits of shapewear to relieve their aches and pains. Improved Blood & Lymph Circulation Shapewear, like Mass & Slim leggings, are infused with hundreds of ceramic beads. The beads deliver a massaging effect as you move to boost blood and lymph circulation and help minimize soreness and swelling throughout the day. All-Day Comfort Made of a lightweight, breathable fabric, Mass & Slim leggings can be worn comfortably under your scrubs. Support & Shape Working like compression wear, Mass & Slim leggings offer support for muscles and joints in your abdomen, upper legs and ankles. And they deliver the added benefit of creating a flattering shape from the moment you put them on, in addition to helping reduce the appearance of cellulite. See for yourself. Many nurses have already discovered how Mass & Slim shapewear can help them get through a shift in more comfort. Please visit The Black Purple website to learn more.

How to Get Over the Plateau When Trying to Reduce Your Cellulite – Part 3

by Nima Rafizadeh on Feb 14 2018
This series looks at the weight loss plateau that most people experience. When trying to healthily lose weight as a way to reduce your cellulite, you may reach a plateau in your progress when, even while you continue to use the same methods that got you this far, the pounds stop coming off and you might even put back on some of the lost weight. It’s a very discouraging point in a weight loss journey and it often forces people to stop trying. In Part 2 of the series, why discovered why you hit the plateau. In this post, we’ll start to look at ways that you can get through the plateau and stay on the path to lower weight and reduced cellulite. How to Push Through the Plateau The problem with most weight reduction plans, even the best ones, is that they don’t adjust for getting over the plateau. Just like a physical journey, where the first part is as easy as hopping on a plane and getting really far, really fast, that plane can’t drop you off at your final destination. It will get you most of the way, but when it drops you at the airport, your journey stops, until you realize you have to change your mode of transportation to a bus.  Similarly, when you hit your weight loss plateau, which is like landing at the airport and suddenly stopping your journey after getting really far, you need to make adjustments to how you get to your goal to get back on track.  An article that appeared recently on WomensHealthMag.com used interviews with dozens of people who hit the weight loss plateau and broke through it to outline some of the best ways to do so.  Portion Control Adjusting your eating habits to get rid of the sugar-, salt- and fat-laden foods in your diet is a great first step. But just because you’re eating healthier foods doesn’t mean that you can’t still be eating too much food. It’s a mistake to think that because what you’re eating is healthy you can eat more. It’s important to track how much you’re eating, including snacks, to make sure you’re not eating too much. In Part 4 of this series, we’ll look at four more ways to help you get through the weight-loss plateau. In the meantime, if you want to start reducing the appearance of your cellulite right now, while instantly improving your figure the moment you start to wear them, take a look at our Mass & Slim shapewear.

How to Get Over the Plateau When Trying to Reduce Your Cellulite – Part 2

by Nima Rafizadeh on Jan 29 2018
In Part 1 of this series we discovered that people who try to reduce their cellulite by healthily losing weight often reach a plateau in their progress. The plateau happens when, while still using the same healthy changes to diet and increases in activity that produced initial results, the pounds stop coming off. It’s a point that can prove so frustrating that many people give up hope and abandon their efforts. But you don’t have to.  Why You Hit the Plateau The general direction of many good weight management programs is to eat less, eat healthier foods and increase your activity levels. If your do all of these properly and the weight usually starts coming off fairly quickly. But, while you feel you’ve finally found the way to healthily lower your weight, your body has other ideas. Luckily for us all, our bodies’ systems have one main focus: keeping us alive. One of the basic ways that your body uses to gauge that everything’s okay is to maintain a state of ‘homeostasis’, which basically means keeping everything stable. In other words, if things are unstable in your body it could mean a threat to your health, so your body does what it can to get back to that steady stability to reassure itself that everything’s okay. When you start losing weight, even healthily, your body can work against you because it sees the weight loss as a threat to its homeostasis. But, because you’re eating a healthy, balanced diet, you give it the nutrition it needs to make the transition.  Unfortunately, your body then starts thinking that your new routine is the new homeostasis. So, after you manage to lose those first pounds, your body says, “cool, this new weight, diet and activity level is now normal, so let’s stop here”.  And you hit the weight loss plateau. In Part 3 of this series, we’ll start to look at ways of getting through the plateau.  In the meantime, if you want to start reducing the appearance of your cellulite right now, while instantly improving your figure the moment you start to wear them, take a look at our Mass & Slim shapewear.

How to Get Over the Plateau When Trying to Reduce Your Cellulite – Part 1

by Nima Rafizadeh on Jan 27 2018
Once you get past the idea that cellulite can be ‘banished’ by brushing or using a cream, you’ve taken the first step toward truly reducing the appearance of your cellulite. But it’s the first step in a journey and, like every journey, there will be twists and turns that can make it difficult at times and make you want to quit. Reducing your weight is a great way to reduce your cellulite because you get rid of some of the fat that produces cellulite’s orange peel effect on your skin. But there’s one twist in the weight loss journey that forces many people to abandon it. The Plateau Phase of Weight Loss Talk to most people who have made a serious effort to lower their weight and they’ll tell you that, after initial success, they reached a point where the weight stopped coming off, even though they kept doing the same things that helped them shed the pounds in the first place. It usually happens a few months into their journey, one that was so far relatively easy, always headed in the right direction, with the weight loss that comes from healthy changes in diet and activity. One day the weigh scale seems to stop in its tracks, no longer heading towards the goal weight. Even after double-checking all the things that have worked so well so far, the scale refuses to budge. In some cases, it back tracks.  It’s the weight loss plateau. It’s a very common hurdle on the road to a healthier weight and it’s one that can prove to be so stubborn, so frustrating and so deflating that many people just give up. They feel like a lower weight, and the cellulite reduction that goes with it, are just not meant to be. Perhaps most frustrating of all is the fact that the plateau often happens when you’re relatively close to your goal weight. In other words, you lose most of what you want to lose, but, no matter what you do, you just can’t seem to lose the rest. In Part 2 of this series we’ll take a look at the reasons why you hit the plateau. In the meantime, if you want to start reducing the appearance of your cellulite right now, while instantly improving your figure the moment you put them on, take a look at our Mass & Slim shapewear.

You Need Only One Resolution in 2018

by Nima Rafizadeh on Jan 10 2018
For many, the New Year might not be such a ‘Happy’ time. As we set off into 2018, it can be a time for reflection on the past year and what you did or, more importantly for this post, what you didn’t do. Even if like most people you don’t set any formal resolutions, the New Year still brings with it the sense of a fresh start and the hope of self-improvement. But chances are you’ll find yourself at the end of 2018 lamenting about what you didn’t do, instead of what you managed to accomplish.  Whether it’s human nature, or our insecurities, it seems like we are very quick to be self-critical while being very stingy in appreciation for ourselves. Imagine if You Spoke to Others the Way You Speak to Yourself “You didn’t get ANYTHING done this year!” “Your job sucks and you don’t have the guts to do anything about it!” “You’re fat!” You would never say things like that to anyone. But it seems pretty easy to say them to yourself. If you can imagine how bad someone would feel if you spoke to them that way, then you shouldn’t wonder why you might not be feeling too ‘Happy’ in the New Year. Your inner voice might be making you feel as bad as anyone would if someone spoke to them that way. Your One Resolution for 2018 There’s one resolution you can make that will probably help you make lots of other changes and improvements in your life. Be kinder to yourself.  If you can start silencing your inner critic, and give yourself credit when it’s due, you’ll probably find you’re in better shape than you think.  It’s not always easy to turn off your inner ‘critic’. But you can start to turn on your inner ‘booster’. Just by taking a minute at the end of each day to think of at least one thing that you did well, or tried for the first time, or accomplished, no matter how small it might seem, you’ll begin to see a transformation. If once a day is too much, try once a week.  The idea is to be the kind of boss to yourself that you would love to have at work. One who encourages and appreciates a good effort, and one who guides you when you stray off course. You can start right now by not shaming yourself about your body. Instead, do everything you can to feel better about what you have and who you are. Remember, it’s not how you look, but how you feel about how you look. Mass & Slim shapewear helps you feel better by adding flattering shape from the moment you put it on.

3 Unique Gift Ideas for Anyone Trying to Live a Healthy Lifestyle

by Nima Rafizadeh on Dec 07 2017
Every year it gets more and more difficult to keep up your reputation for giving gifts that are different, useful and really appreciated by the recipient.  One of the tricks you’ve probably used in the past is to think about a person’s hobby or interests and find a unique gift based on those. But there’s one interest that that lots of your family and friends might have, but you probably never used it to inspire your gifts. Whether it’s trying to lose weight, eat balanced diet, or get in shape, we all know people who are trying to live a healthier lifestyle. But losing weight or eating healthier foods is often something we do alone. We don’t want it to be front-page news if we aren’t able to stick with it.  But changing your diet and living a more active lifestyle aren’t easy adjustments. The people on your list who are making the effort might really appreciate the support of a thoughtful gift that can help them reach their goals. Here are just a few ideas for unique, useful gifts for the people on your list who are trying to be healthier. 1. Kitchen Tools Yes, this sounds terribly boring, but, no, we’re not talking about spatulas, pots and pans. If you look around, you can find some really cool and unique kitchen gadgets for healthier eating. 2. Meal Delivery Services The kitchen tools help people make their own meals, which is a great way to avoid prepared and processed foods. But if there’s someone on your list that you know will never go into the kitchen, why not get them a healthy-meal delivery plan? 3. Women’s Shapewear We eat better and get more active not just because we want to be healthier. We want to look better too. Anti-cellulite, slimming shapewear helps the person on your list do both.  First, as soon as she puts it on, it instantly improves the wearer’s figure. Second, it’s Tourmaline® ceramic beads gently massage the wearer’s skin as she goes through her day and/or workout. The blood and lymph flow created by the massaging action is clinically proven to reduce hip and thigh circumference, while also reducing the appearance of cellulite. What better gift can you give anyone other than a gift that helps them be healthier. And look great too!?

The Best Weapon to Fight Cellulite? It’s How You Feel

by Nima Rafizadeh on Nov 23 2017
Let’s get straight to the facts.  Facts About Cellulite: It’s perfectly normal. You can’t get rid of it. Facts About Cellulite & You: Like over 90% of adult women, you have cellulite. You hate it. It makes you look away from mirrors and delete photographs of yourself. You often pick what to wear because of your cellulite, not because it’s really what you want to wear. At times, your cellulite might have made you embarrassed, depressed and left you with low self-esteem. So, what’s the difference between those two sets of facts? How You Feel About Your Cellulite The real problem with cellulite isn’t physical, but it’s how it makes you feel. Here’s something that is very common, doesn’t make you sick or unhealthy, and that you can’t eliminate, yet it’s the root of so many bad feelings. If you can’t change your cellulite, why not try to take steps to transform your feelings about it. And about how you look. 1. Be a Good Friend to Yourself If you had a friend who told you that her cellulite made her feel bad, would you talk to her like you talk to yourself? Think about the words of encouragement you would give that friend and give them to your inner voice.   2. Take Small Steps for Your Mind & Body This doesn’t need to be a big change. Small steps can work wonders. Call your Mom more often. Take the stairs. Volunteer. Give up your seat on the bus. Dance like no one’s looking. 3. Do Something that Makes You Feel Better About How You Look Don’t let negative feelings about how cellulite makes you look stand in the way of feeling better about how you look. Take a makeup class. Buy that expensive outfit. Look in the mirror and see all the good in you.   Even if you’ve hesitated to use Mass & Slim’s cellulite-fighting shapewear because you don’t think they will help you look and feel better about yourself, you won’t know until you try them.

The Best Article About Cellulite Ever?

by Nima Rafizadeh on Nov 13 2017
We hope you’re familiar with our habit of busting cellulite headlines. We don’t like seeing so many magazine and online articles that are simply creating impossible hopes that you can ‘blast away cellulite’. But, even while there’s been a notable increase ‘embracing’ or ‘celebrating’ cellulite stories, there still remains very little coverage of cellulite in the popular media that’s true and fair. So we were really chuffed to find the article “What You Need To Know About The Connection Between Cellulite And Weight Loss”, on the Women’s Health website.  If you’re looking for an even-keeled explanation of cellulite, what it is and how it can be ‘treated’, this is it. Almost every paragraph is like a mini cellulite lesson.  1. “Cellulite is incredibly common” This can’t be stated too often. The article points out that 80% to 90% of women have cellulite. Despite that, many women who have cellulite feel like they are the exception. You’re not, you’re the rule!  2. “…people of all weights and sizes can and do have cellulite” While we wonder about the Hillary Duff example the author uses in the article, the point is that even very slim people can have cellulite.  3. “Losing weight won’t automatically get rid of cellulite” Like any other cellulite ‘treatment’, losing weight will not get ‘rid’ of your cellulite. The reason is that the amount of cellulite anyone has depends on a variety of factors, including genetics, age, skin thickness, sex and levels of body fat.  4. “… it is considered normal from a medical standpoint to have some (cellulite)” Yes, it’s true. Cellulite is normal. You are not a freak. 5. “Some beauty treatments and creams claim to target cellulite, but experts are skeptical of their efficacy.” The article does a great job of busting the cellulite-eliminating claims of any skin cream or other topical treatment because, while cellulite appears on the skin, the effect is produced by a layer of fat that is below the surface of the skin.  6. “…there are no current treatments that will eliminate cellulite completely.” Enough said. But that doesn’t mean you can’t look better and feel better about yourself by wearing Mass & Slim anti-cellulite shapewear!
Tips on how to survive the party season

How to Survive Party Season

by Nima Rafizadeh on Oct 27 2017
We might call it them fall and winter, but the next couple of months are really party season. Starting with Halloween’s costumes and candy, followed closely by holiday celebrations with family, friends and coworkers, and finishing off with New Year’s festivities, your social calendar will probably be fuller over the next two months than at any other time of year. If you’ve been managing your weight and keeping your cellulite in check, party season can be a real challenge to your efforts. But with the right preparation and approach, you can minimize the threat, enjoy the moments and come out of it all looking as good as ever. Here are a few tips for making it happen. 1. Get Mentally Prepared Just by keeping in mind that you’ll be facing lots of challenges, setting yourself up to beat them and keeping your focus on the goal, you’ll have done a lot to avoid the threats to your health weight and cellulite that come with party season. 2. Get Your Rest The late nights can wear you down, and wear down your will power too. Especially the night before an event, try to get at least seven hours of sleep. 3. Eat Before You Head Out Arriving at the party on an empty stomach is asking for trouble. Before you go out, have a healthy meal, or at least a solid snack of fruits and vegetables, to keep your appetite in check. 4. Scope Out the Good Stuff Sure, you’re there to enjoy it all. But if you make it a point to choose the healthy food and drink options first, you’ll eat less of the other stuff. 5. Alternate Alcohol and Water Alcoholic drinks deliver a double whammy. First, they’re full of cellulite-inducing calories. Second, they lower your inhibitions about what you eat and drink. Have eight ounces of water between drinks to reduce alcohol’s effect. One More: always look your best. When you head out looking sharp, like in cellulite-reducing shapewear, it helps to keep your mind on the goal – feeling better about yourself and looking great too.

A Glimmer of Hope for More Realistic Media Images

by Jonathan Osborn on Oct 18 2017
How do you feel when you see a photograph online or in a magazine of someone with a ‘perfect’ body? One without a blemish, wrinkle or any sign of cellulite. How are you supposed to feel? After all, you have blemishes and wrinkles and cellulite.  And that’s if you see just one photo of someone with a perfect body. What happens when, every time you go online or open a magazine, you are bombarded by dozens or hundreds of images of perfect bodies? You might not even want to get out of bed – and that’s the reality for many who have pre-existing depression or other issues and then have to face the impossible. Perfection. If you’ve never heard of Getty Images, you probably see one, or 20, of their pictures every day. The company is the largest stock photography company in the world. They contract photographs around the world to take photos of anything that we might find interesting, from news stories to, yes, those images of perfect models that can ruin your day. For media companies, Getty Images (GI) means that they don’t have to maintain their own stable of photographers. Instead, they can simply buy whatever image(s) they need from GI. So if GI decides to change the way they take images, or what they do with those images afterward, it can have a huge impact on a lot of the media imagery we see. “Getty Bans All ‘Photoshopped’ Images That Alter Models’ Body Shapes”  In what must feel like a victory for anyone who’s ever felt down after seeing unrealistic media images, GI has agreed to abide by a French law that obligates magazines to indicate when a models’ photo has been retouched or photoshopped. If they don’t, they can face fines of tens of thousands of dollars.  This isn’t the answer to living with your cellulite. But it’s at least it’s a start at reducing the simply impossible images that make it even more difficult to deal with cellulite.  In the meantime, you can start feeling better about the way you look right now. You can instantly improve your figure, and start reducing the appearance of cellulite, as soon as you put on any of our the full-line of slimming, comfortable anti-cellulite shapewear.

More Cellulite Headline Busting

by Nima Rafizadeh on Sep 28 2017
1
It’s been over a year since we started busting cellulite headlines here on The Black Purple blog. It started as a way to underline the misconceptions and sheer lies about cellulite, like that you could get easily ‘rid’ of it, that are common in news media, and from those who prey on people who are embarrassed by their cellulite.  In the time since that first headline-busting post, there’s been some good news and some bad news. First, while a year ago we found almost nothing but false, sensational, ‘click-bait’ headlines promising ‘miracle cures’ for cellulite, today you’re just as likely to find body-positive posts that encourage you to embrace and live with your cellulite. The bad and most appalling news is that the phony, misleading headlines are still there and coming from otherwise reputable sources. So, without wasting another minute on fake news, let’s bust some more cellulite headlines. ‘Want to ditch your cellulite? Dermatology professor reveals which cures actually work’ – If you’re not familiar with the term ‘click-bait headline’ this is a perfect example. By using the word ‘cures’ in the title, the headline gives the impression that cellulite can be ‘cured’ (it’s not the plague!) and that the article reveals how. So who with cellulite wouldn’t click on that? But, almost as soon as it starts, the article uses more realistic wording like ‘reduce the dimples’ and ‘be wary of miracle cures’. In the end, no ‘cure’ is offered.  ‘Does Dry Brushing Really Reduce Cellulite and Help You Look Younger?’ Here’s one that’s trying to sell something that you don’t really need. The cellulite-reducing principle of the brush is that it “improves circulation and helps flush waste and toxins by stimulating the lymphatic system.” But you don’t need a dry brush to do that. A good massage from your partner will do the same thing and be lots more fun too.  ‘Can you really beat cellulite with just a cream?’ – The worst example of a terrible cellulite headline and story comes from one of the oldest, most respected news outlets in the UK. First, of course you can’t ‘beat cellulite’ – if you’ve been reading our headline-busting posts, you’d be wise to that one. But check out this excerpt from the article: “There are treatments that can get rid of cellulite, including the CelluBust treatment that Dr. Williams uses. The 12-week programme includes having carbon dioxide injected into the area and mesotherapy every two weeks, as well as a full at-home ritual.” Not only is this article nothing but an undisclosed advertisement for a sham product, but it makes a poor attempt to sound legitimate and ‘new’ with statements like ‘a full at-home ritual.’ Huh? Sounds like you’ll have burn some incense and recite cellulite-busting chants to make this one work. If want to spot a product or story that isn’t fake, look for one that backs up any claims with the results of independent clinical trials, like The Black Purple’s cellulite-fighting shapewear.

Why Lunch is Great Place to Start Eating a Healthier Diet

by Nima Rafizadeh on Sep 18 2017
You can’t be blamed for being confused by the contradictory advice you might get about your eating habits, especially when it comes to your regular meals. You’ll find as much advice telling you it’s okay to skip breakfast as you’ll find reasons why you shouldn’t skip breakfast. And the jury’s still out on whether a big dinner is more beneficial than a smaller dinner. A healthy, balanced diet is key to managing your weight and the symptoms of excess weight, including your cellulite. The simple answer to questions like whether you should eat breakfast is that you need to find what works for you. Even if someone else says that skipping breakfast helped with their weight management, it doesn’t mean it will work the same for you. In any case, as you begin to develop your own healthy eating habits, it might be best to avoid all the attention that breakfast and dinner get, and start with lunch. Here’s why: 1. It’s the Middle Meal Even if you’re a grazer, eating small meals throughout the day, those you eat in the middle of the day are crucial to how well the plan works. For the more traditional ‘three squares’ approach, whether you eat or don’t eat breakfast, have a big dinner or small dinner, what you eat in between the two can make or break the program. For example, if you don’t eat breakfast, and avoid a solid lunch, it might make you to overeat at dinner as your body forces you to get the calories it needs – but gets too many at once.  2. You can Use it to Avoid Afternoon Crash Whether it’s due to your morning coffee, or sugary and starchy morning meals, many of us suffer an afternoon energy crisis that nothing short of a good nap can solve. But if  you have a nutrient-rich lunch, including healthy fats, protein and fibre to stabilize your blood sugar and energy levels, you can stay alert and avoid the crash.  3. It’s the Meal You’re Most Likely to Cheat On Even those of us who take the time to make healthy meals at home, lunch is often eaten outside the home. The sheer convenience of it, coupled with the idea that you’re eating healthily otherwise, makes fast food, and its excess sugars, salt and fats, a tempting option for lunch. Again, what works for you is unique to you. If you’re looking for a way to instantly improve your shape, start reducing the inches and the appearance of cellulite, check out the full line of slimming, anti-cellulite Mass & Slim shapewear.

How to Look Slimmer in Clothes

by Nima Rafizadeh on Aug 02 2017
For anyone who wants to lose weight, it doesn’t really have to do with shedding some pounds. The truth is you’d just like to one day walk into the office or just hang with friends and not be self-conscious about your body. It would be fantastic just to have a moment free of the nagging thoughts about whether people notice your rolls, or to stop wondering why you can’t look more like your gorgeous cousin. Your health and wellbeing are the most important reasons for managing your weight. But the vast majority of people lose weight do so because they want to feel better about their appearance. And that can backfire when you choose ‘crash’ diets and unhealthy calorie cutting to get results as fast as you can. The Fastest Way to Look Slimmer Luckily for you, there are ways – at least four of them actually – for you to look instantly thinner by wearing the right clothing – and none of them are ‘wear black’, (but that’s a good one!) Here they are: 1. Wear One Colour Black doesn’t work just because it’s black. Wearing the same-coloured jacket and pants creates a continuous vertical line, which makes you look taller, and slimmer. 2. Use Vertical Stripes Hopefully we didn’t give this one away with the previous point. The beauty of clothing and fashion is that it creates perceptions and changes how people see us. The height-inducing perception of vertical stripes is a great example. 3. Get Properly Sized for Your Underwear Even the slimmest person can sport ‘rolls’ through their clothing if their underwear doesn’t fit properly. It’s believed that over 80% of women wear the wrong-sized bra. Go to a specialized store and get a proper fitting. You’ll look slimmer – and be more comfortable. And you’re worth the extra cost. 4. Discover Shapewear First, it’s far more comfortable than you think. Second, unlike ‘vertical stripes’ it doesn’t ‘trick’ anyone into seeing you as slimmer – you will really look slimmer – in anything you wear. Shapewear not just enhances your shape but it’s a great way to take care of ‘problem areas’, like hiding belly fat. From choosing the right jewelry, to wearing unadorned jeans, there are lots of other ways for you to ‘dress slimmer’. It may not be the complete answer to your health and wellbeing, but there’s nothing wrong with feeling better about yourself.

How to Fight Cellulite from Within

by Nima Rafizadeh on Jun 22 2017
Thinking that, because it appears on your skin, you should try to tackle cellulite where you see it is probably the biggest mistake you can make in trying to reduce it. And just about all of us make that same mistake. It’s why you see so many ‘cellulite-busting’ creams, brushes and scrubs. But, although it appears on the outside, having healthier skin, and improving the appearance of your cellulite really starts from inside you. It might seem a little ‘inside out’, but here are some of the best ways to start fighting you cellulite from within. 1. Win The Mental Game If there’s anything that trips up a good plan, in just about any aspect of your life, it’s the wrong mental approach. Managing your weight is a good way to manage your cellulite. But if you hinge the success of your weight loss on the numbers on your weigh scale, or on reaching a certain weight in a certain time, both can set you up for failure. Instead, try to set yourself up for success to win the mental game. Start transforming your thinking from ‘numbers’ and more towards a healthier lifestyle. Set reasonable, attainable goals and celebrate every success. The successes you enjoy from a new mental approach will give you the confidence and motivation to set, and reach, the bigger goals later. 2. Get Physical We don’t mean join a gym and pump iron (unless that works for you!). Again, a drastic change or unreasonable expectations don’t usually end successfully. Instead, think about nourishing your body, take care of it the best you can, and add as much activity to your day as you’re comfortable with. Work on what’s healthiest for your body and don’t blindly jump into trying to change it. 3. Be Emotionally Invested Overeating or eating unhealthy foods is often the result of emotional stimuli. From media images to the reflection in the mirror, they can all trigger negative emotions that can lead to cellulite-friendly behaviors. Try to identify the triggers and do something about them. If you reach for the chips every time you see a bikini body on Instagram, stop following that account. If the mirror image gets you down, do something immediately to improve it, like wearing slimming shapewear that adds shape and definition as soon as you put it on. As always, there’s no one way to diminish the look of cellulite. It’s the result of a combination of approaches that are unique to you. But, by starting your efforts from within, you’re more likely to find the right approaches later on.

What it Means to Live with Your Cellulite but Not Love it

by Nima Rafizadeh on May 31 2017
The recent efforts by celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Ashley Graham to promote a healthier body image and tackle body shaming by publicizing photos that plainly show their cellulite are to be applauded. The fact is that there is no single ‘normal’ for everyone and, if anything, it’s our unique differences that should be celebrated. The greater acceptance of it makes it easier to live with your cellulite. Not every single media image you see is of an unrealistically perfect body. But, at least for some people, it can be a mistake to think that while you can more easily live with your cellulite, you also must love it. Life isn’t perfect. There will always be things you don’t care for. But it’s a mistake to let those things rule your life. What it Means to Live With Cellulite It means not letting it ruin your life. It’s just cellulite. It’s not particularly harmful and nine out of ten women have it – including famous celebrities and models that we often think have ‘perfect’ bodies (whatever ‘perfect’ means). Living with cellulite means you don’t have to keep searching for the latest cream or scrub to get ‘rid’ of it. You can’t get rid of cellulite, so it’s best for you, mentally and physically, to live with it. What it Means to not Love Your Cellulite It means, instead of focusing on something you don’t like about yourself, focus on the things you love. If you love the people around you, if you love being healthier, if you love to look your best, then work on your relationships, eat healthier foods, and wear outfits that flatter your body. Interestingly, when you work on the things you love about your life, it helps you manage the things that you don’t, including your cellulite. The Black Purple’s cellulite-reducing shapewear helps you look your best in anything you wear.  Visit our website to learn more.

Does Kim Kardashian Have the Best Outlook on Cellulite?

by Nima Rafizadeh on May 10 2017
She's famous for two things: being part of one of the most recognizable families in the world, and her figure. Considering that's all she's had to work with, Kim Kardashian has done remarkably well. Estimated to have earned $52.5 million in 2015, with tens of millions of social media followers, a decade-long reality TV show, and a Time magazine spot among the world's 100 most influential people — Kardashian has built an empire on her image. Why Kim Kardashian's Cellulite Photos Went Viral Typically, celebrities protect the very assets that made them famous. Singers rest their vocal cords before performances. Actors train relentlessly to stay in peak condition. So you'd think that, with so much resting on her posterior, Kardashian would ensure it's always presented in the best possible light. And she usually does. But when Shape magazine published paparazzi images of Kim in a bikini, this wasn't a typical celebrity photo story. The image wasn't posed, hand-picked, or photoshopped. It was a candid shot — and it clearly showed cellulite on her bum and thighs. Kardashian herself has shared similar unfiltered images on her Instagram account, seemingly unapologetic about what the world would see. What Kim Kardashian Said About Her Cellulite As admirable as it is for Kardashian to present herself in such an unfiltered way — knowing she'd face a wave of body shaming — it is her attitude towards cellulite that is the most refreshing part of all. In a 2010 interview, she said: "I have cellulite, just like almost every other woman on the planet. And just because I feel secure with my body doesn't mean I think cellulite is cute! It will always be an issue for me. So let's just say it's a work in progress!" Why Her Honesty Matters — and What You Can Actually Do About It By simply acknowledging that cellulite is an issue for her, Kardashian instantly made it less of an issue for millions of women who compare themselves to the 'perfect' body images they see in the media every day. Cellulite is a normal, natural skin condition — not a sign of poor health or fitness — and it affects an estimated 80–90% of women worldwide. Yes, your cellulite isn't cute, and, like Kim Kardashian, it's an issue for you. But like every issue, you can tackle it and make it better. From compression-based treatments to specially engineered shapewear, there are practical, proven options that reduce its appearance — no celebrity budget required. From Celebrity Acceptance to Real Solutions: What Actually Works on Cellulite Frequently Asked Questions About Kim Kardashian and Cellulite Does Kim Kardashian have cellulite? Yes. Unretouched paparazzi photos and Kim Kardashian's own Instagram posts have shown cellulite on her thighs and bum. She has openly acknowledged it herself, saying: "I have cellulite, just like almost every other woman on the planet." This is entirely normal — cellulite affects approximately 80–90% of women regardless of weight or fitness level. What did Kim Kardashian say about her cellulite? In a 2010 interview, Kim Kardashian said: "I have cellulite, just like almost every other woman on the planet. And just because I feel secure with my body doesn't mean I think cellulite is cute! It will always be an issue for me. So let's just say it's a work in progress!" Her candid honesty was widely praised for normalising a condition that affects the vast majority of women. Is cellulite normal even for celebrities? Absolutely. Cellulite affects 80–90% of women, including celebrities with access to personal trainers, nutritionists, and luxury spa treatments. It is caused by the structure of fat cells and connective tissue beneath the skin — not by weight, fitness level, or lifestyle choices. Kim Kardashian, despite all her resources, has publicly confirmed that cellulite is an ongoing issue for her. What is the most effective way to reduce the appearance of cellulite? According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the most practical options include compression shapewear, retinol-based creams, and professional treatments such as laser therapy. One Simple Trick that Makes it Way Easier to Eat Healthier Meals

Let’s just skip all the reasoning and same old ‘how to fight cellulite’ advice. You love to eat. You love to eat a lot. And you really don’t want to change that part of your life, regardless of whether it’s ‘emotional’ eating, or you’re getting too many carbs, or your calories count is off the scale. But, no matter how well you’ve come to terms with your eating habits. and how much you’re willing to live with your body – and cellulite - as it is, you still have those moments when you wish it wasn’t so. You would love to have a meal and feel almost pride in the fact that what you ate was relatively healthy and wasn’t adding to your weight. If only there was a way to make the transformation to healthy eating without being forced to give up any of the foods you like. But that’s impossible, right? Not quite. How to Start Eating a Healthier Diet & Keep Eating What You Like One of the problems with ‘switching’ to a healthy diet is exactly that, you make a switch that happens as quickly as turning on a light. So who can survive something as drastic as that? Instead, plan on keep your diet much and it is and make a ‘transformation’ instead. That means you can start eating some healthier foods at your own pace, without giving up what you love. Here are three ways to start your healthy eating transformation. 1. Eat a Serving of Vegetables Before Every Meal Yes, every meal, even breakfast. A serving is about the size of your clenched fist, so it’s not a lot of vegetables. Have them as raw as you dare. And stay away from dressings, cheese, or adding anything else to them. Then eat the stuff you really like. 2. Get 10 grams of Fibre with Each Meal First, the vegetables have lots of fibre, so you might already be part the way there with this one. A small serving of beans, or whole grain rice, or some almonds, or bran, or any other high-fibre food, will do the trick to add more fibre to your favorite meals. 3. Have Some Non-Red-Meat Protein Whether it’s chicken or chick peas, a small serving of healthy protein at each meal will also help you make the transformation without giving up all the foods you love. Yes, we know this suggestion is a bit of a ‘trick’. While we tell you that you can eat the foods you like, the idea is that, by making the transformations in your diet, you’ll eventually replace much or all of your unhealthy eating habits with healthy ones. But, by doing any one of the suggestions above, you’ll be taking a huge step towards better health, weight management, and doing something about your cellulite too.

How Cellulite Reduction Can Lead to Pain Reduction

by Nima Rafizadeh on Apr 11 2017
Yup you know it. In fact, you're tired of hearing it. So forgive us for repeating it again. But there’s no denying it. Any extra activity, from a formal exercise program to simply taking the stairs at the mall instead of the escalator, contributes to burning more calories, which helps to better manage your weight, which also helps to keep your cellulite in check. Pain Gets in the Way of Activity One reason you might be tired of hearing about getting more activity is that, while you want to be more active, and you get it about all the benefits, that extra activity is actually physically painful. Chronic pain can affect your life in so many varied ways beyond the pain itself. Among others, the symptoms and problems linked to chronic pain include: Fatigue Sleeplessness Weakened immune system Changes in mood including hopelessness, fear, depression, irritability, anxiety, and stress The Link Between Your Diet & Chronic Pain From wearing high heels, to diseases like arthritis, the causes of chronic pain are as many and varied as the symptoms. One cause, that many people don’t usually link to the pain they feel, is the foods they eat. Many foods contribute to chronic pain by starting a process that increases the incidence of inflammation. Ongoing consumption of them can lead to ongoing inflammation and the chronic pain that goes with it. Here are just a few of the foods and food types that can contribute to chronic pain:

3 ‘Healthy’ Snack Foods That Don’t Help You Reduce Cellulite

by Nima Rafizadeh on Mar 03 2017
You know that there is no ‘magic pill’ for managing your weight and reducing the appearance of cellulite. Instead, it’s a combination of factors, including a healthy, balanced diet, physical activity, and even getting a good night’s sleep. Snacking can be a very important part of that healthy diet. Healthy snacks and healthy snacking habits can not only give you lots of great nutrients that you might not get elsewhere in your diet, but it can help satisfy the hunger pangs that sometimes cause you to overeat. But finding healthy snack foods is not as easy as it might seem. There are a many snacks that look healthy, either in their appearance or in their packaging, but aren’t really much better than the unhealthy snacks you used to enjoy. Here are just a few examples to show you what we mean. 1. Energy Bars & Granola Bars Who would argue that a granola bar isn’t that healthy for you? After all, you can actually see the oats, and almonds and coconut, and all sorts of other healthy stuff right there in the bar. But a majority of energy and granola bars are covered in saturated fats and sugar to make them taste better. Before you eat one, check the ingredients and nutrition labels. Better yet, it’s easy to make your own, very healthy granola bars. 2. Flavored Greek Yogurt If healthy snack foods were celebrities, Greek yogurt would be one of the biggest stars in the world. There’s no denying its health benefits, which include, like all yogurts, being a great source of protein, calcium, potassium, zinc and vitamins B1 and B12, among other good stuff. Plus, Greek yogurt delivers probiotic bacteria for a healthier gut, fewer carbs, less lactose, and more protein and nutrients than regular yogurt. But, that great reputation doesn’t mean that all Greek yogurt is so wonderful. Again, in the interests of improving the somewhat bland taste, manufacturers add fruit flavours that can make the yogurt sound even healthier. Except the opposite is true. In addition to the actual fruit, they throw in lots of sugar; up to 7 teaspoons in some cases. Instead of buying flavoured greek yogurt, buy the plain yogurt and add the fruit yourself. 3. 100-Calorie Packs These are like the greatest gift ever to anyone who misses all the unhealthy snacks they used to crave. Sure, the 100-calorie packs of potato chips and cookies are full of unhealthy stuff, but it’s only 100 calories, so it can’t be that bad, right? Wrong. First, in addition to the calories, you’re getting high levels of sodium, and saturated fats. But, perhaps worst of all, 100-calorie packs can be the downfall of all your weight-loss and cellulite-reducing efforts by keeping you hooked on exactly the foods that caused the problems in the first place. Yes, reducing your cellulite means you must make a number of healthy lifestyle choices. But don’t let unhealthy snacks masquerading as the good stuff ruin everything else you are trying to do.

Why We’re So Mixed Up About Metabolism

by Nima Rafizadeh on Feb 24 2017
In the constant quest to lose weight, the word ‘metabolism’ or ‘metabolic rate’ comes up a lot. And when it does, it’s frequently as part of an excuse as to why someone can’t lose weight. Something like: “I can’t lose weight because my metabolism is too slow.” But that simple statement, heard so many times and seemingly making so much sense, is wrong in at least two major ways. But before we get into that, let’s start with the basics of what is ‘metabolism’. Every bit of food you eat has energy stored in it. The reason we must eat food constantly is because we need the energy that the food has to offer. Our brain signals that we are hungry because it detects that our energy is running low. But, after we eat food, something has to happen to it for our bodies to be able to get the energy from it. That process of converting food energy into energy our bodies can use is called metabolism. The idea of a fast or slow metabolism in based on each person’s basic, or basal, metabolic rate, which is the number of calories you need to sustain basic bodily functions when you are at rest. This includes things like your heart beat, breathing and hair growth. Those who need less food energy, or fewer calories of energy, to run basic bodily functions are considered to have a slower metabolic rate. Those who need more calories to run basic bodily functions are said to have a high metabolic rate. Now you know the two major ways in which the statement “I can’t lose weight because my metabolism is too slow” is incorrect. Metabolism Myths: ‘Slow’ is the wrong way to describe a metabolic rate that needs fewer calories to give the body the energy it needs. In fact, we should be thinking of metabolic rates in terms of “efficient” and “inefficient”. A rate that burns fewer calories to get the same job done is more efficient. So slower metabolic rates are efficient and higher metabolic rate are inefficient. Whether your metabolic rate is fast, slow, efficient or inefficient has no bearing on whether it’s more or less difficult for you to maintain a healthy body weight. In the end, that will always come down to how many calories of energy you eat versus how much you burn. Regardless of your metabolic rate, you can always take steps to reduce how much food energy you eat, use up more of it after you eat, and help to reduce your extra weight and some of its symptoms, including managing your cellulite. Use every chance you get to be more active and eat a healthy, balanced diet.
